Pembuatan dilakukan menurut metoda Wijs. Pengukuran kandungan iodium produk yang dihasilkan dilakukan dengan cara-cara gravimetri dan cara fotometri. Uji keefektifan minyak beriodium yang dihasilkan dilakukan pada domba. Kadar iod minyak yang dihasilkan rata-rata 3,7 g I/10 ml, dibanding 4,7 g/10 ml dalam lipidol. Pola ekskresi iodium dalam urin domba yang diberi minyak beriodium buatan sendiri mirip dengan pola ekskresi iodium dalam urin domba yang diberi lipidol. Jika disimpan tanpa tutup pada suhu biasa, dalam tiga hari warna minyak beriodium buatan sendiri telah berubah dari kuning kecoklatan menjadi coklat hitam dan makin hari makin hhitam.
